At least 10 civilians were killed in an attack on the Hotel Intercontinental Kabul, Afghanistan.

Afghan officials said the fatalities were Afghan, but the figure did not include at least six suicide bombers who either blew themselves up or were killed by security forces.

Interior Ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqi said the five-hour siege of the Intercontinental Hotel was over on Wednesday morning.

NATO-led coalition forces used helicopters to fire at the roof of the hotel where three militants had positioned themselves.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the group was targeting foreign guests.

The attack occurred on the eve of a conference about the gradual transition of civil and military responsibility from foreign forces to Afghans.
